Highlights from Our Trauma-Informed Leadership Coffee in Cleveland, OH
Last week, Katie Kurtz, Sarah O’Brien, and I (Julie, Integrate’s Co-founder and platform designer) came together in Cleveland, Ohio, at Nekawa Sober Circles for a day of insightful activities, including a Trauma-Informed Leadership Coffee session, a Trauma Aware Care Workshop, and Somatic Meditation.
We truly value the opportunity to engage with human care providers from various regions. In Cleveland, the conversation was deeply focused on the implications of the recent election and the challenges of leading with love in times of conflict.

Leaning Into Trauma-Informed Leadership: Elevate Relationships Through Mindful Boundary Setting This Week
Boundaries aren’t barriers. However, they require us knowing how we are going to connect to one another. They require understanding our capacities, leaning into empathic dialoguing and connecting with relational sustainability and vitality.
Outdated impact of not setting boundaries with connection in mind:
✅Avoiding Difficult Conversations: In the past, individuals would often set boundaries by avoiding challenging discussions or conflict, leading to surface-level connections and potential misunderstandings.
✅Overextending Themselves: People used to connect by constantly saying “yes” to requests, even at the expense of their well-being, ultimately eroding their boundaries and causing burnout.
✅Relying on Implicit Expectations: Traditional methods involved assuming others understood personal boundaries without explicit communication, which could lead to crossed lines and discomfort.
Human Centered Communication approaches to setting Mindful Boundaries that connect and help us lean in:
Using Human-Centered Communication for Mindful Connection and Boundary Setting:
✅Active Listening and Dialogue: Through human-centered communication, individuals actively listen and engage in open dialogue, fostering mutual understanding and respect for each other’s boundaries.
✅Empathy and Understanding: By prioritizing empathy, people acknowledge and respect each other’s limits, leading to more meaningful and supportive connections.
✅Collaborative Boundary Setting: Human-centered approaches involve collaboratively setting boundaries based on open communication and mutual agreement, creating a shared understanding and stronger relationships.
✅Flexible and Personalized Boundaries: Utilizing human-centered communication allows for personalized and flexible boundaries that adapt to individual needs and situations, promoting authenticity and trust.
